Anime news for the week of 8-18-14

1. For our first piece of new it looks like we have a time line for the Attack on Titan manga. In an interview with the editor of said manga he stated that the manga will take around 3 to 4 years of uncover all of the mysteries in the series. His thoughts are that the manga is slated to end in 3 to 4 years but that the franchise will be passed down from generation to generation for a decade or 5. I find it interesting that the manga will by his calculation only (and I do say only) run for 10 years. Bleach is going on 13 years, Naruto has 15 under its belt and is still going strong. And don’t forget One Piece is has been chugging along for 17 years with not end in sight. Does this editor envision Hajime Isayama still attached to the project? Look what happened to the creator of Dragonball Akira Toriyama. He eventually had enough and wanted to go on to something else. And as a side note, “No Regrets, Birth of Levi” anime is going to come bundled with volumes 15 and 16 of the main storyline mangas. Volume 15 is set for a Dec. 29 release of this year while Volume 16 will be released on April 15, 2015. I don’t know if these dates are the Japanese release dates. But they probably are.

2. Space Dandy the MOVIE! Yup if Bones president Masahiko Minami has his way there could be a Space Dandy the MOVIE in our future. Don’t know what to say about this? There are more questions than answers with this one. Because of the nature of the show being that it is an anthology, how could the film have a storyline when the series doesn’t have one? Would it just be a random 60 to 90 minutes rambling of a Dandy in Space?

3. Hunter X Hunter the animated series is calling it quits. It was outpacing the source material (manga). From what I have read it is not going on hiatus as some series do in this position. Currently it is at episode 143. It is ending at episode 148. Why is this interesting to me? I don’t follow the series. At our local anime con in just a couple of weeks Mr. Takahiko Abiru the Animation Director is going to be a guest. What great timing for our little con! I beat his panel is going to be full to over flowing. I might even go to this one. I wonder if he will show. I have to figure that he knew about this when he agreed to be a guest at our con. Our little might just make news this year!

4. And finally if you are a fan of “Locodol” as we are then this is pretty exciting news (if you live in Japan). The Locodol anime is hosting a Uogokoro-kun dance contest. Applications for the contest are being taken from August 26 thru September 15. In case you need a bit of reference as to what the Uogokoro-kun song looks like, the cast members of Locodol have made an instructional video of themselves dancing with the cute little mascot. They are looking for three contestants to join the cast of Locodol on stage for a special commemorative concert event on September 23 to celebrate the release of the new “Nagarekawa Girls” album which is based on the series. Sounds like fun to me.
