And now the details …
What have I been watching this week? Which delivered, which were just meh?
The series I enjoyed this week:
Bonjour Koiaji Patisserie – This ONA is more fun than I thought it would be. Each week I learn a little more about pastries. Not how to make them, but how gorgeous they are and the men who make them! Though this week one of the characters wonders how she is not going to gain weight with all the good things to eat!
Gugure! Kokkuri-san – It is up to episode 8 and the two episode arc is complete. Kokkuri returns to his male form with the help of Shigaraki the old tanuki spirit.
Mushishi – Sea of Otherworldly Stars, once again a person has to make a choice. This time the choice is to return their normal life with their family.
Ookami Shouji to Kuro Ouji (Wolf Girl and Black Prince) – Erika is not longer a Wolf Girl (lying) and Kyoya isn’t really the Black Prince anymore.
Shingeki Rage of Bahamut Genesis – with episode 7 we are back to advancing the story line. The demon Azazel really should have been voiced by Gackt. He isn’t but he should have been. Kaisar and Favaro have teamed up. Rita, the dead girl is a really good character. Amira is just so-so.
Now for the “meh” episodes for this week
Amagi Brillant Park – cute episode with the different characters wearing a Kanie suit. Are Kanie and Sento going to become a couple?
World Trigger – the art is so uneven in this series. I am getting to the point where I don’t know why I am watching it.
Terra Formars – There are only 13 episodes planned, we are at episode 9. All we are getting is backstories. This time we got two episodes of backstory on Adolf Reinhardt. The problem with this series is that I feel like I have come in at the middle of the story. I don’t know what came before.
Gundam Reconguista in G – I still don’t know what is going on in this series!
Now for the series of the week – Akatsuki no Yona – Girl standing at the blush of dawn.
This series reminds me at time of Fushigi Yuugi with the harem aspects of the show and at other times Saiunkoku Monogatari. They are both centered in a Chinese setting. Akatsuki no Yona has the mythology of the 4 legendary dragons. The music and artwork are good. I like the details. Happy that it is 24 episodes. Slowly building the heroes that will surround Yona. I also love the political intrigue in the story line. Yona will eventually have to take on her childhood friend now crowned king of her kingdom Soo-won. The pacing is good. Besides Hak (the Hunk!) we have added Yun. He was taking care of the priest Ik-Soo. His leaving Ik-Soo and joining Yona and Hak was very emotional for me. As Yona said, she didn’t want to break up a family. So well written, really tugged at my heart. Rumor has it that this story is inspired by the Three Kingdoms of Korea period. Music is by the composer of Twelve Kingdoms, another series I love.
